Cover Story: The evolution of cutting force, surface roughness and chip breakability are considered principal machinability contributors. In case of lead-free brass alloys (such as CW510L), the inherent tendency for continuous chip formation, imposes explicitly the necessity for the optimization of machining process parameters. The elaboration of a Design-Of-Experiments (DOE) study indicated the most influential factors, along with their optimum combinations for the achievement of the assigned machining objectives (minimum cutting force and minimum surface roughness).
