Cover Story: Nanostructured CoFe2O4 was synthesized using a facile electrodeposition process for energy generation and storage applications. The multifunctional CoFe2O4 was used as a catalyst for overall water splitting and as an electrode for supercapacitors. CoFe2O4-based electrolyzer required a low potential of 1.56 V to obtain 10 mA/cm2 compared to benchmark electrolyzers such as IrO2/Pt-C (1.57 V), IrO2/IrO2 (1.77 V), and Pt-C/Pt-C (1.64 V). CoFe2O4 also showed a high specific capacitance of 768 F/g at 0.5 A/g and maintained 80% retention after 10,000 cycles. These results demonstrate the competitiveness and multifunctional applicability of the CoFe2O4 in energy generation and storage devices. View Paper here.
