Cover Story (view full-size image): Pregnancy rates are rapidly increasing among women of reproductive age diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). Pregnancy substantially reduces disease activity, although, for some patients, severe relapses could appear whilst pregnant. However, pregnancy is not always compatible with the available highly effective MS treatments. This article explores the aspects and outcomes of pregnancy, such as the impact on disease activity and the management of relapses during pregnancy and the breastfeeding period, and discusses available disease modifying treatment strategies during pregnancy.
