Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The amount of waste currently generated in the modern world is alarming due to the enormous environmental and socio-economic impacts associated with its management. It is therefore essential to minimize the generation of waste and, where this is not possible, to optimize its management. As a result, research on waste management, and in particular on the impacts of these activities, is growing rapidly. Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) is a novel methodology that can be used to quantify and analyze such impacts. LCSA combines the well-known methodologies of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for environmental impact assessment, Life Cycle Costing (LCC) for economic cost assessment, and Social Life Cycle Assessment (SLCA) for social impact assessment. LCSA is therefore an excellent methodology for assessing the sustainability of systems and processes, including waste management. In this context, the aim of this Special Issue is to explore the use of LCSA to assess the environmental and socio-economic impacts associated with waste management. This Special Issue welcomes original research articles and reviews. Case studies that use LCSA to investigate a specific waste management case are particularly encouraged. Methodological studies analyzing the application of LCSA will be considered within the scope of this Special Issue as long as they consider aspects of waste management.

I look forward to receiving your contributions.
