Nephrology & Urology
A section of Journal of Clinical Medicine (ISSN 2077-0383).
Section Information
The kidneys are essential for maintaining homeostasis of the body. Their functions include excretion of wastes and toxins, regulation of pH, fluid, and electrolytes, and production of hormones. For these functions, the kidneys are constituted of one million nephrons for each. A nephron consists of glomerulus connected to a complicated tubule that drains into collecting duct and the ureter. Kidney injury in acute and chronic forms will ruin these functions and cause life-threating illness. A number of clinical studies reported significant associations of acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) with poor outcomes. Although some therapeutic strategies have been demonstrated to prevent AKI development and CKD progression, no specific treatment that can completely cure kidney diseases is currently available. Further investigation that will provide an innovation for the fight against kidney disease. Urological disorders also have significant impacts on human health. Urology covers a wide range of diseases such as cancer, renal transplantation, urinary-tract system disorder, and male reproductive medicine. Remarkable progressions in the field of urology including molecular targeted therapy, immune checkpoint inhibitors, and robot-assisted surgery should be addressed. We sincerely welcome your submission to Journal of Clinical Medicine. Our readers are waiting for your contribution to nephrology and urology.
