Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Infrastructure construction is a material- and labour-intensive task which results in massive environmental burdens. After natural disasters due to global warming and human calamity, a new concept has emerged, which is called resilient infrastructure. Resilient infrastructure underpins many approaches and technologies that lead to an energy-efficient, eco-friendly, and sustainable life cycle. It should be noted that the environmental burdens of infrastructure assets in the utility phase may be higher than construction and recycling phases. Therefore, it is essential to analyse energy feedstocks and carbon footprints of infrastructure assets from the cradle to the grave. However, one of the most energy-intense phases of the infrastructure industry is the construction phase. Any change, resulting in energy conservation, is a form of investment for a green economy because the infrastructure assets encompass a wide range of facilities in socio-economic development as follows:

  • Water and wastewater;
  • Waste management;
  • Energy production and distribution;
  • Buildings;
  • Recreation facilities;
  • Communication;
  • Transportation.

To overcome the challenges of development of sustainable and resilient infrastructure, it is necessary to benefit from cutting-edge technologies, digital platforms, machine learning, novel approaches, sophisticated analytical models, and research.

This Special Issue provides a platform to publish world-class research to pave the way toward sustainable construction infrastructure. All authors, researchers, technologists, developers, business staff, technicians, and vendors are invited to submit their research papers, review papers, state-of-the-art of technology/material, book reviews, discussions, or short comments on sustainable construction infrastructure relating to one or more of the following topics:

Carbon footprint;

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Infrastructures is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
