Special Issue Information
The objective of this special issue is to provide high quality research results on intelligent (or smart) sensors. Full research papers with new results or a comprehensive review of the state-of-art of intelligent sensors and their applications are encouraged for submission. There are no restrictions on the topics of interest of this special issue.
Authors are encouraged to submit experimental and theoretical results in as much detail as possible of their research on this topic and/or their industrial applications (but not limited) to: automotive, consumer, environmental, medical, biological, chemical, electrical, mechatronics, robotic, nautical, aeronautical and space measurement systems. In addition, authors who are working on intelligent materials are encouraged to submit full research papers.
For review papers, the title and a short abstract can be sent to Prof. Dr. Wilmar Hernandez at your earliest convenience. We would like to invite you or through you other co-workers and researchers to contribute papers. Please send your paper by e-mail to sensors@mdpi.org and send a copy to whernan@ics.upm.es. The subject title of the message should be "Manuscript for Special Issue Intelligent Sensors for the journal Sensors".
Open Access Article Processing Charges are 1050 CHF per paper. English correction fees and/or formatting fees (250 CHF) will be added in certain cases (1300 CHF per paper for those papers that require extensive additional formatting and/or English corrections). Starting 1 January 2010, Article Processing Charges are of 1600 CHF per accepted article for Sensors.
We also published a special issue on Intelligent Sensors in 2009
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are refereed through a peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.

Title: Intelligent Sensors Based on Supramolecular Concepts

Abstract: Intelligent sensors requires sophisticated organization of sensing elements which have to often be connected each other soft and reversible non-covalent bonding. Therefore, supramolecular chemistry plays very important roles in design of intelligent sensors. Sensing elements including functional molecules, inorganic nanoobjects, and biomaterials can be organized into regular thin film structures through supramolecular techniques such as self-assembled monolayer method, Langmuir-Blodgett techniques, and layer-by-layer assembly. Confinement of sensing components within well-defined nanospaces such as mesoporous channels leads to new development sensor designs. Furthermore, combining these techniques results in construction of hierarchic organization of functional materials for intelligent sensors. Recent examples on these subjects are introduced in this review.
