Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Internet has evolved in ways that we could never have imagined. The next wave of Internet applications will move beyond managing data to empower people to  interact with the physical world, which forms the essential fabric of our lives. It promises to connect everything in a person’s life, from bathroom scales to cookers to cars (facilitating smart-homes and cities), through environmental sensing (enabling government-, company-, and citizen-led enterprises), ambient assisted living, and smart cities, all of which have the potential to have a massive impact on society as a whole. There are formidable challenges in delivering this vision, which varies from technology to sociology and political issues. Different networking technologies beyond RFID, WSNs, VANETs, and LTE-A/5G have led to an intelligent environment where these technologies can communicate independently, as well as with each other, to create a sustainable intelligent environment for the user.

Key technologies behind this new wave of Internet applications are the Internet of Things (IoT), Web services, Cloud Computing, Intelligent Environments, Sensing technologies, Distributed computing, and Embedded Computing. These are often researched as separate topics. Underpinning the technologies are the sensors and actuators. This, therefore, makes this Special Issue on Future Intelligent Environments (FIN) relevant to the journal of JSAN, with the aim of publishing quality peer-reviewed papers in the areas mentioned above.

Topics of Interest

The coverage of this Special Issue is relatively broad, and covers topics such as, but not limited to:

  • End-user programming approaches to personalizing the IoT environment

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Sensor and Actuator Networks is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
