Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Days of traditional shipbuilding, ship repairing and ship conversion are no longer attractive when there is a potential for growth and sustainability with knowledge-based shipyards. Shipyards nowadays also build rigs, repair rigs and even do the conversion of FPSOs, FLNGs and FSRUs. Though shipyard activities remain the significant contribution of human power, technology like 3-D drawings in design and engineering, automation in production activities, the concept of modularized building techniques, etc., have changed modern shipyards’ overall operations. Similarly, project management is no longer confined to a simple Gantt chart showing milestones and limited activities. Today ships and rigs are being built though well-controlled production, testing, classification, certification, validation, etc. Mammoth projects were only possible with technological advancement and excellent management techniques with a touch of innovation in all aspects of shipyard technology and management techniques by introducing new ideas, methods and even products. There are tremendous efforts in developing an efficient design and engineering work as an optimized hull with CFD, using non-linear structural analysis with FEM, 3-D engineering tool for outfits, etc. Very little has been done in the production of these beautiful structures perhaps with thinner plates, composite materials to build a superb hull and its superstructures with excellent quality and efficiency and not compromising safety, risk, health, environment to grow and become sustainable and competitive.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Marine Science and Engineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
