2–3 February 2019 2019 Micro and Nanoscale Phase Change Heat Transfer (GRS)

Lucca, Italy

Processes involving phase change are critically important in a wide variety of fields such as energy conversion, chemical and petroleum processing, microelectronics cooling, MEMs devices, coating and self-assembly. The phase change occurring in these systems is governed by hydrodynamic, interfacial and intermolecular forces that drive the exchange of mass, momentum and energy between the phases and dictate the rate and extent of change that can occur. This GRC and associated GRS are focused on fundamental descriptions of phase change processes and how these forces interact to prescribe how equipment can be designed and processes can be run. Topics within the conference include processes occurring at the three-phase contact line, the thermodynamics of adsorption and phase change, the design of surfaces at the micro and nanoscale to control the extent of phase change possible, advances in the simulation and numerical modeling of phase change processes, and new and novel experimental methods for measuring the extent of phase change and the forces driving those changes.

11–14 September 2018 Thermo and Fluid Dynamic Processes in Direct Injection Engines

Valencia, Spain

THIESEL 2018 is the tenth edition of the THIESEL Conference on Thermo-and Fluid Dynamic Processes in Direct Injection Engines and this anniversary is worth a celebration! It indicates that THIESEL has acquired over the years a consolidated position as a meeting point between industry, research institutions and academia involved in R&D for automotive engines.

THIESEL has been a forum where combustion engines developers have presented and discussed innovations and challenges of the past 20 years, and naturally, it strives to remain that way for the next 20 years. True, combustion engines are widely unpopular nowadays and manufacturers face even tougher challenges in view of the restrictive environmental issues. However, no doubt combustion engines will remain the main propulsion system in transport for the next 20 to 50 years, at least for as long as alternative solutions based on renewable energy sources cannot provide the flexibility expected by customers of the 21st century.

Which means that innovative research is needed to ensure that future combustion engines adapt perfectly to the new societal needs. And research can only progress if there is exchange of valuable knowledge and experience between the main actors of the automotive R&D sector. THIESEL 2018 aims at providing Academia researchers and Industry developers the ideal setting for these high tech exchanges.

21–26 August 2016 24th International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics

Montreal, Canada

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Every four years, the mechanics community from around the world gathers at the Congresses organized under auspices of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) to discuss science, strengthen relationships, and marvel at the ever-growing applications of this discipline. Following the 23rd IUTAM Congress in Beijing in 2012, Canada will have the pleasure of hosting the 24th Congress in Montréal from 21-26 August 2016. I invite you to reserve these dates in your calendars now, and plan to join us. We will work hard to make this Congress – ICTAM 2016 – one of the best yet.

ICTAM 2016 will take place at the vast Palais des congrès situated in the heart of downtown Montréal, one of the most multi-cultural, safe and exciting cities in North America. Numerous hotel rooms and dormitories have been secured within an easy walking distance from the Palais and we will be in close proximity to great shopping, museums and multitude of restaurants to suit any taste. Furthermore, our venue borders the Old Port, one of Montréal’s top tourist attractions.

On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee and the IUTAM Executive Committee, I would like to extend my warmest invitation for you to join us in Montréal. In addition to enjoying the great scientific program that will be put together by the International Program Committee, you will renew ties with old friends and colleagues while making new connections. The richness of Montréal’s famous nightlife provides a great opportunity for exciting after-lecture socializing and the city itself is a perfect jumping-off point from which to explore and discover some of Canada’s most astounding natural environments either before or after the Congress.

5–7 September 2016 11th International Conference on Advances in Fluid Mechanics

Ancona, Italy

AFM 2016 is the 11th International Conference on Advances in Fluid Mechanics. The meeting is reconvened following the success of all previous conferences in the series, the first of which took place in New Orleans (1996), followed by Udine (1998); Montreal (2000); Ghent (2002); Lisboa (2004); Skiathos (2006); the New Forest, UK home of the Wessex Institute (2008); The Algarve (2010); Split (2012) and A Coruña (2014).

The success of the conference continues to attract high quality contributions presenting original results. The evolution of the meeting is reflected in the variety of topics and applications published in the conference book series since its beginnings in 1996. The field of fluid mechanics is vast and has numerous and diverse applications. The conference covers a wide range of topics, including basic formulations and their computer modelling as well as the relationship between experimental and analytical results. The emphasis is on new applications and research currently in progress.

The papers – like others presented at Wessex Institute conferences – are part of the WIT Transactions in Engineering Sciences series and are archived online in the WIT eLibrary (www.witpress.com/elibrary), where they are immediately and permanently available to the international scientific community.

The object of the meeting is to provide a forum for discussing new work in fluid mechanics and, in particular, for promoting the interchange of new ideas and the presentation on the latest applications in the field.

11–14 September 2016 5th Micro and Nano Flows Conference

Milano, Italy

Welcome to the website of the 5th International Conference on Micro and Nano Flows, MNF2016, hosted by the Politecnico di Milano, Italy, from 11th to 14th September 2016.

As with preceding meetings in the series, MNF2016 focus on aspects of micro and nano flows, encompassing both, thermofluids engineering and biomedical fluid mechanics. The area of small scale flows is highly inter-disciplinary and taxing for the individual researcher due to its rapid development pace. The challenge is in applying the highest expertise, whether in fundamental analysis and modelling of fluid flow or heat transfer, in experimentation or in developing successful innovative devices for application areas. There are still many problems to be resolved, especially as scales reduce from micro to nano levels. There is particular value in the nature of this meeting: it seeks to provide knowledge of the latest international achievements and provides a good opportunity for researchers to present and discuss their work across disciplines in biomedical and thermofluid engineering. We invite all engineers, scientists, industrialists, clinicians, modellers and experimentalists working in the field to attend.

Seville, Spain

The next European Fluid Mechanics conference, EFMC11, will be held at the Barceló Sevilla Renacimiento Hotel between September 12th and September 16th 2016. Some details about the venue, the city, the program of activities, the meeting organization etc, are already accessible through the site www.efmc11.org which, however, is still under construction.

The European Fluid Mechanics Conferences are run under the auspices of the EUROMECH organisation, and cover all aspects of fl uid mechanics, from biological fl ows to aerodynamics, from environmental flows to combustion, etc. The first conference was celebrated in Cambridge in 1991. Since that fi rst meeting it has been organised every three years initially and more recently every two years owing to the increasing popularity; the previous meetings have been held in Warsaw in 1994, Göttingen in 1997, Eindhoven in 2000, Toulouse in 2003, Stockholm in 2006, Manchester 2008, Bad Reichenhall in 2010, Rome in 2012 and Copenhagen in 2014. This is the first time an EFMC takes place in Spain and we will do our best for not only the scientifi c program to be of the highest quality, but also the program of social activities.

We very much look forward to meeting you in Sevilla in 2016.
