Multiple Positions Available in Stem Cell Technology/Neuroscience/Drug Discovery
30 Apr 2019
The focus of Deng Lab has been on investigating (1) pluripotent stem cells and their differentiation towards neural lineages for regenerative medicine; and (2) molecular mechanisms of neuronal and glial cell death, with an emphasis on excitotoxic, oxidative and inflammatory forms of injury to the nervous system. We are working on novel methods of cellular reprogramming, stem cell differentiation, disease-specific cells from induced pluripotent stem cells to model human diseases and find new therapeutics. We are seeking individuals who are interested in reprogramming somatic cells to pluripotent stem cells, characterizing cell lineages and precursor populations and identifying factors that influence growth/expansion of neuronal/glial lineage cells, developing genetic/chemical platforms to reprogram cells and to control cell differentiation and to achieve directed differentiation of stem cells. Trainees will be given opportunities to independently design and execute incisive experiments and interpret results, and to author papers in high-profile journals in areas of relevance to the research.
Multiple Positions Available in Stem Cell Technology/Neuroscience/Drug Discovery The Laboratory of Dr. Wenbin Deng seeks applications from qualified candidates with expertise in human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology to our established stem cell/neuroscience research team. Candidates with a strong background in cell, molecular and systems biology also are encouraged to apply. Our mission is to tackle the key challenges that currently impede the translation of the iPSC technology for disease modeling, drug discovery and regenerative medicine applications. We are looking for highly motivated, open-minded and collaborative applicants with experience in Stem Cell/Genome Editing/Neuroscience techniques. Human iPSC experience or CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing experience is preferred. The selected candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of innovative scientists with expertise in assay development, drug screening, drug discovery, medicinal chemistry, compound management, chemical biology, innovative pharmacology, biomaterial engineering, bioinformatics, nanotech, drug delivery, and various “-omics” technologies. S/he will work in a highly creative environment, focusing on important aspects of human pluripotency and cellular differentiation using cutting-edge technologies (e.g., single-cell analysis, deep sequencing, 3D organoid culture, chemical biology, patch-clamp electrophysiology). The selected candidate will establish new standards, quality controls, improved protocols and other resources for the iPSC field. We strive for impactful science in a collaborative and collegial environment. We consider career development core to our mission. Our researchers will fully benefit from the deep connections to premier academic labs, hospitals and biotech/pharmaceutical companies in an established biomedical environment. The ideal candidate should have an excellent publication record in high-impact journals. S/he will be expected to work independently as a problem-solver. S/he will keep accurate and complete records of all scientific experiments according to established procedures and ensure that these records and raw data are properly retained. S/he will draft manuscripts and patent applications and present work internally and externally as needed. S/he is expected to have a strong background in stem cell biology/engineering technology, drug discovery, cell and tissue engineering, cell signaling, or quantitative biology. S/he should be a team player with high scientific standards and possess the ability to work in an interactive, fast-paced environment. S/he is expected to be self-motivated to learn new technologies and be familiar with the methods and concepts of stem cell technology and regenerative medicine. Please send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the contact information of at least three references to wbdeng AT ucdavis.edu.
