Throughout the world problems of decreasing water quality and quantity are associated with increased consumer numbers and individual demand, increases in the range and amount of uses, and the problem of actual and potential environmental, especially climatic, change. While technological and political solutions, or at least approaches to solutions, vary from society to society, the underlying problems are similar. This conference will assess the similarities and differences.
The Commission for Water Sustainability aims to interpret "sustainability" in the widest possible sense, including the sustainability of the environment in the face of water development work as well as the sustainability of water resources. It aims to foster links between the human and physical aspects of water management, with specific concern for the sustainability of water resources and for the impacts of water management on the environment.
The Conference is calling for papers focusing on the following Sections:
* Underground resources
* Water and hydro-geological risks
* Planning of water resources
* Infrastructures for water resources management
* Hydrologic emergencies
* Water resources and environmental and climatic change
* Water sustainability in the alpine environment

Microbiological waterborne disease remains a significant concern for the worldwide water community. Whether it’s investigating an emerging pathogen or developing a new control strategy, the challenges facing water supply professionals, public health officials, and regulatory agencies are daunting.
This event will provide a comprehensive forum for the exchange of up-to-the-minute information and cutting-edge ideas relating to this critical public health issue. Special areas of concern include human health, risk and policy issues, detection technology, treatment and management strategies, tropical water quality issues, water security, disaster management and response. Participants will hear from international experts in public health management and waterborne disease surveillance and will attend technical sessions that address waterborne disease issues from source to tap.

The Water Science and Policy Center at the University of California, Riverside, is planning an International Drought Symposium that will take place March 24-26, 2010, at the Marriott Hotel in Riverside. The main objective is to compare drought impacts and mitigation under various physical, economic, and institutional situations in these states, and to allow 'out of the box' approaches to be considered and adopted by the various countries.
The symposium will bring senior disciplinary experts from Spain, Australia, South Africa, Mexico, and California — all drought-prone areas — to sit together and share scientific and policy aspects related to drought and its mitigation in each of these areas. The disciplines to be included are: economics, agronomy, hydrology, ecology, technology, policy, and water management.

Sustainable Irrigation 2010 is the third conference in this series, following the success of the meetings enjoyed in Bologna (2006) and Alicante (2008).
As the standard of living of a large section of the world’s population continues to increase, the strategic importance of fresh water resources also rises. It is essential to seek ways of achieving the most efficient and equitable use of these resources at the same time as making their use sustainable.
Even in those countries where fresh water is currently easily available, over-exploitation is leading to damaging long lasting environmental effects, such as the lowering of water tables or depletion of river flows. Adding to these effects, the problem of contamination effectively reduces the availability of clean water.
Water is essential for irrigation purposes, but its indiscriminate use can lead not only to shortages, but also to the deterioration of crop yields and soils. It is hence vital to ensure that it is applied as effectively as possible in order to reach sustainability.
This conference seeks to address the different aspects of irrigation, including not only the management of water resources, scientific and technical aspects, but also matters related to policy and economics.
The conference aims to attract researchers in academia and industry as well as professional practitioners and policy makers to review the latest developments in sustainable irrigation from a scientific, technological, political and economic point of view. Its objective is also to discuss how to reach the sustainable management of irrigation resources in the future by applying modern computer simulation methods, advanced and new technologies as well as analyzing different policies and economic forecasting techniques.

This conference aims to provide a platform for discussion to consider ways to promote cooperation amongst States in the management and development of transboundary aquifers. It will also consider the various steps to be taken to achieve this - from the adoption of such policies, to their implementation into practical, operational actions. The debates taking place during the conference are expected to guide stakeholders in the management of ‘invisible’ but essential groundwater resources and to meet the expectations of groundwater resources users in terms of water security. This event marks the end of the first phase of the ISARM Programme and the start of the second. It aims to consider the challenges and new directions required for the sustainable development and management of transboundary aquifers. Topics 1. Global overview of transboundary aquifer systems (Regional inventories and case studies – Sharing data and information) 2. Managing transboundary aquifers: Challenges and opportunities (Lessons learned and best practices – Assessing the impacts of global changes to groundwater resources and managing aquifer system’s response) 3. Building capacities and strengthening institutions (Legal and institutional advances – Regional agencies and organizations – Multilateral agreements, interstate cooperation – Training, education and technical assistance needs – Water law and environmental concerns – Globalization and virtual water flow) 4. Strengthening cooperation (Benefits of cooperation and impact of conflicts: techniques for conflict anticipation, prevention mediation, negotiation and resolution)
