Since early disease detection and prevention are the most promising avenues to effective healthcare, this EDDP conference will focus on the early detection and prevention in Heart disease, Hypertension, Diabetes, Renal diseases and how it relates to Health policy issues. The scientific program features a distinguished international panel of leading speakers as well as a concurrent exhibition, and is expected to draw hundreds of participants from around the globe, including medical practitioners, scientists, investigators, opinion leaders, formulators of health policies and health managers.

Protecting children's health in a changing environment
More than ever, children's health is at risk from a changing environment.
The health impacts of environmental risk factors - inadequate water and sanitation, unsafe home and recreational environments, lack of spatial planning for physical activity, indoor and outdoor air pollution, and hazardous chemicals - are amplified by recent developments such as financial constraints, broader socioeconomic and gender inequalities and more frequent extreme climate events. They pose new challenges for health systems to reduce deaths and diseases through effective environmental health interventions.
The Fifth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health, organized by WHO/Europe and hosted by Italy, is the next milestone in the European environment and health process, now in its twentieth year. Focused on protecting children's health in a changing environment, the Conference will drive Europe's agenda on emerging environmental health challenges for the years to come.

We are pleased to announce the 4th User Group Workshop in the course of the EC-funded SmartHEALTH Integrated Project. Driven by key applications in cancer diagnostics, SmartHEALTH was conceived and constructed to address the development and delivery of the next generation of smart diagnostic devices. The aim of the Workshop is to interact with the user community and gather expert opinion in order to address real market needs and find the best pathways towards exploitation of our results. We will do this by introducing the technology being developed within SmartHEALTH and having an open discussion to explore the opportunities and barriers for exploitation/commercialisation in the healthcare arena.
This International Conference will address the need for the exchange of scientific information among experts on issues related to environmental toxicology, toxicity assessment and hazardous waste management. With large numbers of new chemicals entering the market every year, it has become necessary to assess their effects on ecosystems as well as minimise their impact on the environment.

The conference programme will focus on current advances in the science and research of probiotics, prebiotics and their present and future role in maintaining health and preventing diseases. IPC 2010 aims to highlight evidence-based benefits as proven in clinical trials and scientific experiments.
Further to the health effect of probiotics and prebiotics new developments in their selection, identification, production, application and delivery will be discussed. Topical subjects as safety, regulatory issues and claim substantiation will be also addressed by internationally renowned experts from industry and academia.
It is the goal of IPC 2010 to further explore the potential of already used and novel probiotics by disseminating latest results and new ways of probiotic research. In addition novel strains, controversial but scientifically solid ideas, approaches, visions will be presented, and worldwide co-operation between scientists and institutions facilitated.

Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we are pleased to announce to you that the 2nd "Florence Conference on Phenotype MicroArray Analysis of Microorganisms The Environment, Agriculture, and Human Health" is scheduled to be held from September 13th to 15th, 2010. This conference will be held at Polo delle Scienze Sociali di Novoli, University of Florence, Italy. The first edition of the Conference attracted more than 110 researchers, postdoctoral associates, students and others from 23 countries. During the Conference over 60 scientists presented their research in lectures, oral presentations and posters. As the title of the conference indicates, the principal emphasis is on the use of phenotypic analysis and phenotypic data to gain deeper understanding of the biology of microorganisms. Within the conference there will be sessions focused on topics such as environmental microorganisms, and pathogenic microorganisms that are transmitted to humans via the environment, animals, and food. One session will include communications on traditional uses of Biolog plates (ecoplates, GNs, etc.). The conference will be organized in the following format: -Invited lectures -Oral communications and Poster sessions The selection for oral and poster communications will be made by the Scientific Committee. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I look forward to seeing you in Florence.
Yours sincerely Carlo Viti, Ph.D.
Chairperson of the Florence Conference
